How to Upload Test Grades from NBME or Other Apps (Medical School)

Entering Numerical Grades

1. Go to the Grade Center in Blackboard.

2. Click Create Column 

3. Select Work Offline in the upper right corner, then select Download.

4. Change the "Select Data to Download" to the Selected Column and find the name of the quiz you created.

5. Click Submit and then click Download.

6. You will get an Excel file (.XLS). Now, when opening the Excel file FROM NBME , make sure the data is sorted the same way that you see it in Blackboard. (You can sort by Last Name for example and make sure both files match up).

7. Copy all the numerical grades FROM NBME and paste INTO the .XLS file you downloaded from Blackboard.

8. Save your file.

9. Once saved, go back to the Grade Center.

10. Click Work Offline again, but this time select Upload.

11. Click Browse Local Files and select the .XLS file you edited, then Submit.

12. Here you can verify that the grades are being input into the correct column and you will see a Green Check Mark to see that it will be a success, and which numbers are going to be added.

13. Click Submit to finish.

Uploading PDF

1. Go back to the Grade Center and find the exam column you created.

2. Hover over the first students score and click the Chevron next to it.

3. Select View Grade Details

4. Select Edit Grade

5. Under Feedback to Learner select the + sign. If you don't see the second row of tools, click the ... button.

6. Select Insert Local Files and attach the PDF.

7. Click Save

8. To easily move to the NEXT student, on this same page, click the Right Arrow next to the students username in the upper left corner.

9. This will take you to the next student where you can repeat steps 4-7.

Releasing Grades to Students


Don't forget, when you are ready to release the grades to the students, to stop hiding the column.

1. Go to the Grade Center in Blackboard.

2. Click the Chevron next to the name of the column you just created.

3. Select Hide from students (on/off) to show the column.
