How to Re-grade a Question on a Test
There are two possible ways you might want to re-grade your test because of one particular pesky question.
1) Perhaps you realized a question was too hard or unfair for the students. If you decide you want to give EVERYONE full credit for a question that they either got right or wrong, there is a way to do this.
For this procedure we will ONLY deal with Multiple Choice Questions.
2) Maybe you decided you actually want to change how many points a certain question is worth. You can do this yourself and Blackboard will re-grade all the students for you.
1) If You Want to Give Everyone Credit for A Particular Question or a Particular Answer Choice:
Which question do you want to give credit to? Go to your test in the Assessments area or wherever you happen to keep it. Click on the drop down to "Edit the Test' as you would normally.
Here you will see all the questions your test is made up of. Find the question you want to give credit for. Click the drop down next to the question and click Edit.
Under "2. Options" click the box next to "Allow Partial Credit" and make sure it is checked.
Now scroll down and for each of the incorrect multiple choice answers to find a box that says "Partial Credit%". Here you will type in the value 100. You will do this for as many incorrect answers you have so if you have 4 answers in total, you must type in 100 in 3 different boxes.
Alternatively if you only want 2 of these answer choices to be correct, you can skip the other boxes.
Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and hit "Submit and Update Attempts."
Click Okay.
What if a student skipped the answer and left the choices blank:
Although the students who answered the question wrong will now gain credit, the students who left the choices blank will not.
For these students we must input the grade manually. Go to the Grade Center and find the exam you need to re-score. (Control Panel >> Grade Center >> Full Grade Center).
Using the double-down chevrons to the right of the Exam Name in the column header, choose "Grade Questions"
You will then see a listing of all your questions. Find the question that needs to be rescored, and click on the number that shows the number of responses (in the example, 6 students answered the question).
You will then see a listing of students, showing whether they got the question correct, or not.
Look for the students who have submitted a Given Answer as "Unanswered"
Click the Edit button next to the score, then the Edit Window will open and you can award full or partial credit for the answer. Click Submit and move onto the next incorrect response.
Every student who has taken the test will now automatically gain credit for the question and their overall grade will be updated. If the user has already gotten the question right then their grade will not change.
2) If You Want to Change the Value of A Particular Question:
Which question do you want to change the point value for? Go to your test in the Assessments area or wherever you happen to keep it. Click on the drop down to "Edit the Test' as you would normally.
Here you will see all the questions your test is made up of. Find the question you want to change the point value for.
On the far right of the question number you will see the point value already assigned to your question.
Click on the white space where the number is. You will be prompted to type in a new value.
Once you type in a new value, click Submit.
Every student who has taken the test will now automatically have their grade changed according to the new point value you assigned.
